St. Patrick’s celebrations

Top ‘o the mornin’ to ya!
First, just a quick note to point out that my photos are now online and viewable over at Flickr as a photoset.
It was a great day overall with a really early start, getting up at 8am for some last minute prep on a cheesecake that I had made the night before (a photo of it is still to come). Then I headed over to Kelly’s for a big breakfast that she was having, there were upwards of 35 people that I ended up having to cook for and organize the oven/dishes. This is where having once worked in a professional kitchen comes in handy! Kelly’s kitchen got crowded fast and people were hovering and eager to eat. Thankfully, a few friends prepared and brought some food from home (pancakes, ham, quiches, salads and some other goodies). The job that I voluntarily took (I tend to take over in a kitchen) was to cook the scrambles eggs, fry up the sausages, cook the beans, keep an eye on the potatoes and make sure that anything else that needed heating up or some sort of prep got done. There was a LOT of food, I know I’m forgetting to mention some stuff. And yes, I’m patting myself on the back because I did a fine job of keeping track of it all.
After breakfast, a small bunch of us left for the second half of the parade, it felt a little rushed, but we wanted to see as much of it as possible. Poor Kelly had to stay behind to entertain those that weren’t going to the parade.
The parade itself was a blast, it’s kind of unfortunate that we missed a chunk of it. It was a little cold outside, but a couple of Guinness’ took care of that, even though they were flat and past expiry! I’m glad we got there in time to see the Dawson College float though. Another interesting float was one from Total Diving where they had a couple of scuba divers in a large tank full of water.
After a couple of hours of standing outside watching floats and people go by, we then headed of to Honey Martin’s pub, a favourite watering hole. Several hours and beers later, we went out for a bite to eat at Chalet BBQ for some awesome rotisserie chicken, then it was home for everyone.
It was a fun and eventful day, it usually is on St. Patrick’s day - though the day itself was on Saturday. I’m already looking forward to next year and hopefully we’ll have bacon!
